We have been slowly crossing off of the things on our summer bucket list and while I doubt we will hit them all, having an annual pass to The Florida Aquarium is always awesome. It's a great place for both an all day adventure (bring your suits for some brand new splash pad fun) or make it a short afternoon trip to just see some fish. New memories are made with each trip. Sometimes it's as simple as going to stroll around while other trips are more educational depending on what we are working on with school.
Recently we had a girls date with just my daughter and I. It was her first time going to the aquarium and she wasn't exactly excited about it, but at 3 years old anywhere with an escalator works for her. We headed up the moving stairs to check out the river fish and otters! Watching the otters play is a personal favorite of mine. Their silliness is infectious. So often it's just the remnants of the bubbles left as they swish by. Today was a pretty crowded location so we just moved along with the crowd letting my daughter take the lead.
The wonderment in my daughter's eyes as she watched the sharks float by, the turtles sunning themselves on logs and the jellyfish floating in an endless pool is such fun. She raced from one exhibit to the next almost as excited as Christmas morning and the best part is 90% of the aquarium is in the air conditioner (like hello, this is summer and we are in Florida). No trip is complete without finding Nemo!
The Aquarium has added in a fun new feature of a reading area with great ocean related books, soft bean bags to sit on and sea creatures to play with. There are also so many interactive areas including feeding the stingrays and the touch tank. On our next trip I plan to take this handy scavenger hunt PDF I found online for my older kid, plus bring our suits so the kids can play on the splash pad, while I drink adult drinks in the shade and pretend to parent.
