According to Google, real is "actually existing as a thing or occurring in fact; not imagined or supposed". It is not imitation or artificial, it's genuine, authentic, bona fide (I've always wanted to use those words). Just as "strong is the new beautiful", real is the new perfect. Your real life, really! I mean it. Your life is perfect. Sure the kids are always dirty (oh wait maybe just mine), the house is a mess (mine again), laundry is piled in the corner, and lets not talk about the dishes, but it is your life.
The days are long but the years are short.
One day we will look back on these days with fond memories (or so they say) and I am thrilled to have lots and lots of images to remind me of them, the good and the bad.
Now to be real, I don’t have pictures of the piles of laundry in the corner, but I do have pictures of my kids being kids. Images of me playing with my children, recording those moments that I know will mean a lot to me in years to come. The way my son chews on his hair, which drives me crazy now, but I know I will miss when he finally decided to cut it. The way my daughter is always dirty, I mean her face is always dirty. The way she loves to play with her brother, and the way he tolerates her. How her favorite TV show is Sofia the First and he still drags Eeyore around everywhere even though he is almost 6.
These things have meaning to me. They are the things that I want to document to show my children when they grow up. The quiet moments between husband and wife, the childhood dog, the favorite toys, or the special book, they are real, they are perfect.
